Following analysis of security situation in Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Laikipia, Baringo County and other Counties facing similar security challenges, the National Police Service found the need to recruit additional National Police Reservists to complement and reinforce the personnel on the ground.
Before we embarked on this exercise, we had a total number of 7,609 reservists in the respective Counties that include: Baringo County 30, Turkana 1,617, West Pokot 685, Samburu 1,486, Mandera 284, Wajir 336, Garissa 116, Tana River 280, Lamu 227, Marsabit 1,585, Meru 85, Isiolo 130, Trans Nzoia 505, Elgeyo Marakwet 101, and Laikipia 142, while Kitui had none.
Since the beginning of this year 2017, we have embarked on an exercise to recruit suitable candidates for enlistment into the National Police Reserve.
As of 1st March, 2017, we have recruited an additional of 1,739 for deployment as follows; Baringo County 195, Lamu 227, Samburu 375, West Pokot 250, Kitui 80, Elgeyo Marakwet 242, Laikipia 200 and Turkana 170. The exercise is ongoing to recruit more to cover other areas as well as other Counties.
We thank the members of the public in all the said counties for their continued support and cooperation with the National Police Service to foster peace and maintain security. We further urge them to work closely with the newly recruited National Police Reservists to uphold peace in their respective Counties.
