BOINNET COMMITED TOWARDS PEACEFUL ELECTIONS

The Inspector General of Police Mr. Joseph Boinnet has reaffirmed the commitment of the National Police Service (NPS) to provide a safe, secure and peaceful environment for the 2017 General Elections.

Mr. Boinnet said, the Service will remain impartial while discharging her mandate and strictly apply the law as it is without fear or favour. “Anybody found disrupting peace will be dealt with in accordance with the law regardless social economic or political affiliations”, he cautioned.

The IG was speaking today at KICC during the launch of Elections Security Arrangement Project (ESAP) convened by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He said, NPS has put in place security measures to manage the exercise adding that a special security team will be deployed to ensure that the electioneering period remains peaceful.

Mr. Boinnet hailed the security officers for maintaining law and order during the just concluded party primaries adding that only 23 incidences were reported leading to the arrest of 63 suspects .

It was, however, unfortunate that two lives were lost during the party primaries but exuded confidence that the general elections will be peaceful.

Saying that the security of the country and peacefulness of the forthcoming general elections was multi agency endeavour, Mr Boinnet called upon political parties and aspirants, wananchi and other security stakeholders to preach and uphold peace before, during and after the General Elections.

The Project brought together a number of institutions; Chief Justice, Director Public Prosecution, Attorney General, National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), Registrar of Political Parties, Peace Building and Disaster Response, Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the UNPD country representative among others who expressed their commitment towards a peaceful elections.
