PRESS STATEMENT ON THE DUSIT HOTEL ATTACK (2019-01-16).

Further to the earlier briefing by H.E. the President where he announced the end of the successful Police operation in response to yesterday’s terror attack at Dusit Hotel complex, and following further forensic work by the DCI, as of this evening, the final tally is as follows:

  1. Six other bodies were found at the scene. One Police Officer succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
  1. 28 persons were admitted in various hospitals in Nairobi.
  1. 5 terrorists were eliminated.

The following are the nationalities of the persons who lost their lives:

  • 16 Kenyan nationals.
  • 1 Briton.
  • 1 American.
  • 3 persons of African descent yet to be identified.

Subsequent investigations by the DCI have yielded arrest of two key suspects believed to have facilitated the attack and are in custody assisting Police with the investigations.

We wish to thank all Kenyans for the patience and cooperation during the course of our operations.

I also wish to commend our gallant officers and other members of the multi-agency security teams as well as emergency response teams and our hospitals who supported us during the operations for the work well done.

We wish to reiterate our appeal to all Kenyans to continue cooperating with the Police and all security agents in their joint effort to counter terrorism as well as all form of crime.

In the same breath, we would appreciate if the media also refrained from speculative reporting on this matter that could jeopardise on-going investigations.

God bless Kenya.
