Police Hot Lines

The National Police Service is committed towards achieving the highest standards of professionalism and discipline among officers by always complying with constitutional standards of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai says the protection of human rights and fundamental rights preserves the dignity of individuals and communities besides promoting social justice and rejuvenating potential inherent in every human being.

Mr. Mutyambai was speaking yesterday while opening a three-day Independent Medico- Legal Unit (IMLU) sponsored training of Internal Affairs Unit Investigators (IAU) in Nairobi.

The IG reiterated the mandate of the police to maintain law and order and to enforce all laws and regulations to ensure the protection of rights and fundamental freedoms of every mwananchi.

While enforcing all laws and regulations and in a bid to protect the rights and fundamental freedoms, the Inspector General observed that complaints, sometimes arise against some officers for infringing on the rights and fundamental freedoms of citizens. This, he said, calls for the intervention of the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) together with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to address such complaints with a view to providing justice to the complainants.

Mr. Mutyambai hailed IMLU for their support adding that their quest of a torture free society by seeking to protect wananchi from all forms of torture while advocating for policing reforms and monitoring general adherence to Human Rights and capacity building to stakeholders was noble.

He further thanked the civil society for their continued support over the last two years in sponsoring induction and investigation skills training for newly recruited officers.

IMLU Director Peter Kiama expressed his organization’s commitment to continue supporting the service to enhance capacity of officers to attain high standards of professionalism and discipline while discharging their duties.
