4TH EDITION OF THE NPS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP HELD AT NG'ONG RACECOURSE, NAIROBI

The 14th edition of the National Police Service Cross Country Championship was held yesterday, 1st October 2024, at the Jockey Club of the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi. Gladys Kwamboka of the NPS Main Campus in Kiganjo and Nayebei Kiplimo of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) emerged as the winners of the 10km senior women's and men's races, respectively. Timothy Katam of the General Service Unit (GSU) and Winfred Mbithe from the Central region won the 2km loop senior men's and women's races. In the mixed relays, the General Service Unit (GSU) team took first place, followed by the Rift Valley Region team in second, while the Coast Region team finished third. 

Addressing the athletes on behalf of the Inspector General of Police,Mr. Douglas Kanja, the Commandant of the National Police Service College, Main Campus, Mr. Nyale Munga, SAIG congratulated all the athletes on their tremendous performances. He urged them to embrace discipline, train hard, and stay away from prohibited performance-enhancing substances which could ruin their sporting careers.

Similar remarks were made by the President of Athletics Kenya, Lt. Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei, who also noted that the women's national team had performed very well in recent races. However, he expressed concern about the men's team, observing a steady decline in their performance in recent competitions, and implored the relevant bodies to look into the matter. Several NPS officers graced the championship, including the Commandant of the NCIA, Mr. Sospeter Munyi, SAIG; the Commandant of ASTU, Mr. Joseph Limo, SAIG; the DCI Director of Logistics, Ms. Janet Shako, AIG; and members of the Championship Organising Committee, among other dignitaries.
