DIG-KPS WELCOMES HOME NPS ATHLETES FROM TOKYO 2025 WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Today, 23rd September 2025, the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service (DIG-KPS), Mr.Eliud Lagat, officially received NPS athletes at the Kenya Police Service Headquarters, Vigilance House, on behalf of the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr.Douglas Kanja. The contingent had returned to the country earlier in the afternoon after participating in the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The team comprised athletes from the National Police Service, including Corporal Beatrice Chebet, the World Champion in both the 10,000m and 5,000m races, who secured two gold medals. 

They were accompanied by a team of coaches under the leadership of Ms.Catherine Kagwiria, SSP, a cheering squad led by Corporal Michael Maina from the General Service Unit, as well as trainers and medical staff. The team was also joined by celebrated athletes such as Faith Kipyegon, the Tokyo 2025 and World 1,500m Champion, who is also a board member of the Administration Police Service Bomet FC; Mr. Abel Kirui, SSP; and Amb. Dr Rose Tata, among other former champions. 

While addressing the athletes, DIG Lagat congratulated Team Kenya on their outstanding performance, having secured a total of 11 medals: 7 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze. He commended the dedication of the technical team, whose support was instrumental to the athletes’ success. The DIG further urged both current and former athletes to continue mentoring upcoming sportsmen and women, underscoring the importance of discipline and adherence to anti-doping regulations to safeguard their careers and Kenya’s global reputation. In recognition of her remarkable achievement, Corporal Beatrice Chebet was recommended for promotion to the rank of Sergeant of Police.

Accompanying the DIG-KPS were the Principal Deputy to the DIG-KPS, Mr. Patrick Tito, SAIG; the Director of Operations KPS, Mr. Adamson Bungei, SAIG; the Director of Reforms KPS and former athlete, Mr. William Yiampoy, SAIG; the Director of Sports and Chaplaincy APS, Mr. Ramadhan Omar, AIG; the Deputy Director of Logistics KPS, Madam Grace Kakai, AIG; and the Director of Sports KPS,  Mr Isaac Sang, CP.
