GAME ON! EAPCCO GAMES KICK OFF IN ADDIS ABABA

The 5th Edition of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) games has commenced today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, an event whose opening was officiated by the country's Deputy Prime Minister H.E Temesgen Tiruneh at Abebe Bikila Stadium. Seven member states are participating in the regional event, which include Rwanda, Djibouti, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and the host, Ethiopia. The theme of this year's tournament is Sharing best practices and experience in police organizations through sports. Speaking to an audience that thronged the 25,000 capacity stadium for a spectacular show of speed and mental strength, H.E Tiruneh lauded the participating countries for being at the forefront in uniting the region through sports, emphasizing that terrorism and transnational organized crimes had to be brought to their knees through concerted efforts.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Regional Counter Terrorism Center of Excellence based in Nairobi, Kenya Mr Bosco Gahigi noted that EAPCCO's inception in 2013 aimed at strengthening partnership and collaboration in fighting Terrorism and Transnational organized crimes, and that the Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda had championed in the endeavor in that order. Other key speakers included the Commissioner General of Ethiopia Federal Police Mr. Demelash Gebremichael who welcomed the entire delegation for the event scheduled to run from April 27th to May 4th, 2025.
