IG KANJA OPENS THE OCS NATIONAL CONSULTATIVE CONFERENCE AT NPLA, NGONG

The Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr Douglas Kanja, yesterday, 3rd September 2025, opened the Officers Commanding Stations (OCSs) National Consultative Conference at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong. The four-day conference brings together two hundred and twenty-five (225) Officers Commanding Stations (OCSs) from across the country to deliberate on key aspects of police station administration, service delivery, discipline, community engagement, and operational preparedness. He stated that the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, under Article 244 (a), spells out clearly that the National Police Service shall strive for the highest standards of professionalism and discipline among its members.

It is from this vantage point that he invited the OCSs to the consultative forum, themed ‘Transforming Police Stations into Centres of Excellence and Service Delivery’. The Inspector General encouraged the officers to use the platform to add value to themselves and become better and more reliable managers. Additionally, he told the officers that they are the face, voice, and moral compass of the Service; hence, the transformation of police stations begins with their leadership. He reminded them that they are responsible for ensuring that their stations operate effectively, efficiently, and within the confines of the law.

Moreover, he requested the officers to treat members of the public with decorum and civility and warned them that his office will not condone any station commander who does not meet the standards laid down in the Standing Orders (SSO), the NPS Act, and, above all, the Constitution of Kenya (2010). Furthermore, he reminded them that human rights must be respected and encouraged them to advise their personnel to carry out their duties with proper consideration for the laws of the land.

Present at the opening of the conference were the DIG-KPS, Mr Eliud Lagat; the Director of Training and Research-KPS, Mr David Birech, SAIG; the NPS Director of Training, Mr Philip Opiyo, AIG; the Director of Corporate Communications, Mr Muchiri Nyaga, AIG; the Commandant of the NPLA, Mr David Kainga Mathiu, AIG; among other senior officers.
