IG-NPS VISITS ANGATA BARIKKOI IN NAROK COUNTY
The Inspector General (IG) of the National Police Service (NPS), Mr. Douglas Kanja, today visited Angata Barikkoi to assess the tragic events of Monday, 28th April, 2025 where residents forcibly prevented police from executing a court-sanctioned operation, resulting in five civilian fatalities and severe injuries to several officers. In a well-attended meeting, the IG joined local leaders and expressed his sadness over how the events unfolded, stating that the situation could have been avoided. He assured residents that he had referred the incident for investigation by the independent body mandated to oversee the police, adding that the team had already begun its work. Furthermore, the IG announced upcoming policing reforms in the area and urged residents to comply with the law. He emphasised everyone’s responsibility to maintain peace. Political leaders present included the Senate Majority Leader, Hon. Aaron Cheruiyot; Belgut MP, Hon. Nelson Koech; and Emurua Dikirr MP, Hon. Jonah Ngeno, among others.They all stressed the importance of law and order while demanding accountability for the lives lost in the clashes.
