NPS OFFICERS IN KIMILILI BEGIN AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a pervasive issue in Kenya, affecting individuals of all ages and gender identities. Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach, with education playing a pivotal role. Recognizing that early education on these issues can go a long way in protecting children and preventing abuse or violence, the National Police Service has embarked on a campaign targeting school-going children. Earlier today, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Kimilili Police Station in Bungoma County led officers from the Gender and Children’s Department in an awareness campaign against gender-based violence at Kimilili D.E.B Township Primary School. The forum, attended by about 400 pupils, aimed to equip the children with the knowledge to recognize abusive acts, as well as to empower and encourage them to speak out and seek help if they encounter or witness any form of abuse. The officers spoke to the pupils on several topics, including children’s rights and responsibilities, sexual and gender-based violence, and the laws protecting children from harm. They also provided an opportunity for pupils to ask questions, ensuring their concerns were heard and addressed. The National Police Service remains committed to protecting children’s rights and fostering a safe and secure environment in which they can thrive
