POLICE WOMEN LEADERSHIP STAKEHOLDERS MEETING HELD AT THE NPLA, NGONG
A Police Women’s Leadership Stakeholders meeting was held on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, at the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA) in Ngong. The meeting was officially opened by the Commandant of the NPLA, Mr.David K. Mathiu, AIG, and brought together 22 participants from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), the Administration Police Service (APS), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The meeting focused on a training programme to be implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This initiative is a leadership development course tailored for women officers within the National Police Service (NPS), as well as for the men who work alongside them.
It seeks to strengthen leadership capacity among officers at mid and senior management levels, recognizing their critical role in shaping the future of policing in Kenya. The training is structured around clear and actionable goals: to empower women officers, engage male counterparts, address systemic barriers, and enhance policing practices. The broader aim is to foster a new generation of inclusive, ethical, and visionary police leaders. In his opening address, Mr.Mathiu highlighted that women bring unique perspectives, essential skills, and lived experiences that are vital to effective policing. He emphasized that their inclusion in decision-making processes not only promotes fairness within the Service but also builds public trust, strengthens the response to gender-based violence, and enhances the protection of vulnerable groups.
The training aligns with the vision and mission of the National Police Service and supports the ongoing reform agenda, which aims to create a professional, accountable, and people-centered police service. The session was facilitated by senior police officers with expertise in various fields of management, including Ms.Mueni Mutisya, CP; Dr.David Muthondeki, CP; Mr. Geoffrey Kathurima, CP; and Mr. Mohammed Wako, CP, among others. The National Police Service commends all stakeholders for their role in developing practical and relevant training content, establishing mentorship and support frameworks for women leaders, and creating monitoring mechanisms to track progress and impact. The Service remains committed to advancing gender-inclusive leadership as a cornerstone of professionalism and institutional growth.
