The National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) has today commenced a two-week Basic Investigations Course for officers from the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB), reaffirming its commitment to strengthening investigative capacity across government regulatory and enforcement agencies. The course was officially opened by the Commandant of the National Criminal Investigations Academy, Mr. Ibrahim Jillo, alongside the Chief Executive Officer of the Pest Control Products Board, Mr. Fredrick Muchiri.Β

Addressing participants during the opening ceremony, Commandant Jillo underscored the Academy’s mandate of developing competent investigators and fostering professionalism across institutions. β€œA successful investigation is measured not by an arrest alone, but by the quality of evidence presented before a court of law. This course has been carefully designed to equip officers with practical investigative competencies that will enable them to perform their duties with confidence, professionalism and integrity. We remain ready to partner with investigative, regulatory and enforcement agencies in building a highly skilled investigative workforce for the country,” said Mr. Jillo.Β

On his part, Mr. Muchiri welcomed the partnership, describing the training as a major boost to the Board’s enforcement and investigative capabilities. β€œAs the national regulator of pest control products, our effectiveness depends on the ability of our officers to conduct thorough, professional and legally sound investigations. This partnership with NCIA is a strategic investment in strengthening our institutional capacity to safeguard public health, agriculture and the environment,” he said. Over the next two weeks, participants will undertake intensive training in key investigative disciplines, including crime scene management, evidence collection and preservation, interviewing and statement recording, intelligence-led investigations, case file preparation, and courtroom procedures.Β

The programme reflects NCIA’s growing role as a centre of excellence in investigative training and its continued commitment to supporting government institutions through specialized, competency-based courses that strengthen investigative and enforcement capabilities.
